Women and Banks Are femal customers facing discrimination? November 2011 Author: Noreena Hertz IPPR This paper asks whether women in the UK, Europe and America are being discriminated against by banks, as customers. While certain aspects of banks’ behaviour – subprime lending, governance structures, oversight mechanisms and so on – have been interrogated in the wake of the 2008–09 financial crisis, how banks treated and continue to treat women customers is a subject that has received little attention.

"Nobody remember us" Failure to Protect Women’s and Girls’ Right to Health and Security in Post-Ea September 2011 Author: Human Rights Watch This documents the lack of access to reproductive and maternal care in post-earthquake Haiti, even with unprecedented availability of free healthcare services. The report also describes how hunger has led women to trade sex for food and how poor camp conditions exacerbate the impact of sexual violence because of difficulties accessing post-rape care. It looks at how recovery efforts have failed to adequately address the needs and rights of women and girls, particularly their rights to health and security.

Farming as Equals: How supporting women's rights and gender equality makes the difference September 2011 Author: ActionAid Smallholder farmers currently produce 90 per cent of food in Africa and around half of all food worldwide. Across the developing world, women account for 60 to 80 per cent of these farmers. Yet, the majority of people going hungry worldwide are women and girls. So, the very women who are producing our food are the ones who are most likely to go hungry. This report takes seven concrete examples of policy interventions which highlight good practice for focusing on women, and combines this with wider evidence to draw out key lessons for delivering stronger outcomes for women smallholder farmers. It then looks at the current role that different institutions and donors are playing in supporting women, concluding with concrete steps that donors and multilateral initiatives can take to start putting women’s rights and gender equality at the heart of their agricultural policies.
